In this workshop you will learn how to use your rubber stamping supplies to in-bed any stamped, printed or drawn image into a candle. Makes a fun, easy craft activity for any group and makes great gifts.

CCC Chair
We will be making a very portable cadet camp chair (CCC). We have used these for annual family camping trips, cadet camp outs, international camporees, canoe trips etc. It is made from 1 x 2s and seat belts or even feed bags.
Alan has been a cadet counselor for 15 yrs in the Wellandport URC, Ontario and on the Council Board for 14. He has been married for 20 yrs and has 5 children (ages 6-17, 4 boys/ cadets). He is the owner of a family business of 42 yrs, Jerry’s Auto Body in Beamsville, ON. Alan has attended 5 International Camporees, 4 Conventions and 6 Regional Conferences.

Fishing in God’s Creation
Fishing is a great way to connect boys and parents in and outside of the Cadet program. In this workshop different styles and techniques will be talked about. The fishing badge will be discussed so that you may have a better understanding of the equipment. Scripture will be introduced to show you how this is also Biblical.
John & Harry are brothers from Woodstock, Ontario. Between the two of them they have been involved in cadets for over 50 years. They are avid fishermen (not professionals) and have fished many styles and in many areas extending from Northern Ontario to the mid regions of Michigan.

Fly-Tying
The purpose of this workshop is to introduce you to the basic fundamentals of fly tying, including the tools, materials and techniques required for tying. Each counselor will make 2 of the 5 flies needed for the badge.
Jason has been in cadets for 26 years. He was on the host team committee for the ’99 Camporee in Peoria, IL. He also has served on the Illiana Council board for 4 years. He and his family have attended that past 3 Cadet Conventions.

Rachel Janecek lives in St. Catharines Ontario with her husband and 2 girls. She has many years of experience working with groups and teams using adventure activities and games in a variety of settings from therapeutic settings to schools to youth groups. She also brings a background in youth ministry and loves to help groups and individuals name their strengths and abilities as gifts and talents from God to be used and developed to His glory.

Guide Trails: The Adventure Beyond RPB
By the age of 12 or 13, boys have out grown the R.P.B. Program and are ready for a change – Guide Trails, with a wide range of interesting Guide Trail topics available, such as Aero-Tech and Sportsmanship. Participating Guide Trails may give the boys their most memorable years in Cadets. Attending this workshop will give you inspiration and ideas for implementing this part of the Cadet program. Mike’s Guide Trails tips and hints come from trial and error and from talking with other counselors.
Mike Vander Meer has been a counselor for 40 years wearing out a number of grey shirts. Owning and operating his own chicken (broiler) operation and having been blessed by a supportive family, he has had the freedom to participate in many Cadet activities including 9 camporees. He was so happy to almost finish a camporee as Camp Director after the mud fest of Camp Northern Lights. This time the torrential rain hit on the last night and cancelled the last two assemblies. He has been involved on almost all levels of the Niagara Council in Ontario, served in the RTC program as well as on the Corp Executive. This year at Congress Mike will be finishing his second term as Cadet Corp President. With the opportunity to travel to many areas including Kenya and represent the cadet program this experience has been incredible. Mike looks forward to where the Calvinist Cadet Program will lead both him and all of us in the years ahead.

This workshop will explore different meanings of the word “power” with respect to our work – not only our work in Cadets, but in all aspects of life. In what ways are we powered by God, and what, if anything, can we do about it?
Dick was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan and has lived there all his life. He is married and has three married children. Dick was a cadet himself from age 10 – till grade 10. After taking a couple of years off – he started a new club in a mission in the inner city of Grand Rapids in 1969. He remains active in the club, and is now in his 43rd year there as head counselor and cadre counselor. Dick has held many positions over the years within the Corps, such as vice treasurer, vice president and president (which he held from 1977 – 1983). He is an elder at Coit Community CRC in Grand Rapids, serving as the church clerk.

Hello my name is Ryan Suk and I am currently with Maranatha church and cadets.
I am married to Tammie (for 18 years) and have two great teenagers Terry and Leah. I also can not forget to mention our large dog Tundra.
Ihave been a cadet counselor for 15 years and a DCE for 13 of them. I have lead over 20 classes for cadets. Some of them were carving, scroll sawing, and wire art. This will be my first 3D scrolling class.
As for scroll sawing, I"v been doing that for over 20 years. I had my son learning since he was 3, its a very safe and easy tool for beginers.
Looking forward to teaching and learning with this new course ( 3D cutting ) with you.

We will teach how to build a complete water proof shelter for a camporee. How to lash the structural poles giving the shelter strength. How to use the plastic floor to give it a boat like appearance , and finally how to tie down the top plastic and integrate it with the floor system. Barry started as a cadet in 1968 and went through the cadet program. He became a junior counselor after that for 2 years. He currently is attending Zion United Reformed Church in Sheffield. Barry is the head counselor of the cadet club at that church which is part of the Berean Council. He is also on the executive board for that council. In the past Barry was Quartermaster as well. He is married with 7 children. 3 girls and 4 boys. 2 girls married and 1 grandchild. Of his own boys , 2 have gone through the program and 2 are involved now as cadets. He loves to teach the boys in cadets, and is grateful to be able to have the opportunity to help mentor and develop the gifts that God has given them. His hope and prayer is that through God and the efforts he allows us to put forth, that they will gain wisdom and stature and find favor with God and men.

Donna Jo Hewitt has been teaching at Calvary Christian School in St. Catharines. She is Vice-Principal and lead teacher responsible for the Kindergarten program. Home school liaison, and is charge of Ministry support and development. She is part of the special education team at CCS and focusses on early identification, intervention and program planning. She is actively involved in presenting workshops in school, church and community settings.

Gerben Gazendam is happily married to Audrey and they have three grown children. For the past 35 years he has worked in the Exhibition Department for the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa. Gerben started working with young people during his teen years and progressed to summer bible camps, sunday school teacher, delivering children’s messages, youth groups leader and cadet councillor. Two Testimonies of “God in Action”
Art Duerksen will share his adventure of competing and completing an ironman triathalon in August, 2011 after experiencing a stroke in December 2010. Gord Pauls will share how he made Canadian history by being the first Canadian to complete a triple iron man triathalon. An iron man consists of swimming 4 km, biking 180 km, and running 42.2 km. Both Art and Gord experienced “God’s Power”(Ephesians 3:7) in their challenges. Art & Gord will share what God has done (after showing a DVD) with ordinary people, and how HE provides, when we step out in faith and trust Him in ACTION.
Art is from Hamilton, is married and has three children. He has been in sales most of his life but in June 2005 he sold his business and now holds the position of Director for Men for Missions International (MFMI). Art is also an ordained minister with Gospel Crusade of Canada. He has been on several mission trips to Haiti, Bangledesh, Africa and Colunbia. He also volunteers by ministering to inmates at the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre.

As simple as it may seem, this type of craft will help Cadets explore their artistic side. With this two dimensional art, the boy can reproduce his favorite cartoon character, subject, or can bring to life his sketches and drawing to life. Boys have the talents in them, we just have to help him bring them to the surface. With only a few tools and a minimal amount of supplies he can produce a nice craft project that he can take home with him in one night.
Peter has been married for 40 years to Elsie, and has 4 children, and 4 grandchildren. As a steamfitter/pipefitter Peter has worked in heavy industrial construction across Ontario, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. He is the Head Counselor of the Zion Cadet Club in Oshawa, Ontario. There he has had the pleasure of being involved with Cadetting since 1963 as a Cadet, Junior Counselor, and as a Counselor. As a member of the Pine Ridge Council he has been actively involved in the Board for 25 years. He has also have been blessed on numerous occasions when he has presented workshops as a D. C. E. at conferences throughout Ontario and Michigan.
